President's Report

August 2008

300. I don’t know if any of you saw the movie about Spartacus and the great Spartan warriors. What is unique about the movie and the legend is the unequaled pride and confidence between all Spartan soldiers.  Under no circumstances do I want to compare what we are doing to war. However, I do want all of you to know that I am in the process of recruiter 300 great men and women to serve in the DFW ASPE family. I take great Pride in this organization and I hope you do as well. I also have great confidence in all of you. As of August 1, 2008 we have 239 members of our Chapter. This is made up of great people in the Dallas, Ft. Worth, Tulsa, Lubbock, Oklahoma City, and Little Rock areas.

We are Professional Engineers, Code Officials, Mechanical Contractors, Chemical Engineers, Electrical Engineers, Mechanical Engineers, Civil Engineers, Architects, Plumbing Designers, CPDs, and Master Plumbers. We are all striving to get better as individuals, fathers, mothers, friends, and co-workers. I hope that all of you feel as I do when I include my ASPE friends as extended family members. I am asking for everyone’s help in reaching our goal of 300 members in the DFW ASPE chapter. Below is a table that shows the make-up of the largest chapters in ASPE. Currently DFW ASPE is the 4th Largest Chapter in ASPE with 239 members. We have 43 professional engineers and 36 CPDs.

Our chapter is an extended family for all of its members. We have many activities during the course of the year and it should be understood that our activities are not only for our members, but also for your colleagues, your clients, and many professionals that you encounter during your day to day activities. I say this because ASPE is only as strong as we as members make it. We as members are all advocates for the organization. When was the last time you talked with your client and mentioned that you were a member of the ASPE organization? I would like to issue a challenge.

This challenge is going out to all members of the DFW ASPE Chapter. As time draws closer to the October Convention in Long Beach, I want to issue this challenge for membership growth. Whoever can sponsor the most new members into the DFW ASPE Chapter between now June 10, 2008 and October 9, 2008 will win a $200 Visa Gift Card. This is tracked by the Sponsor section on the membership form. Have the person fill in your name with your ASPE# in the sponsor section so that you can get credit for the new sponsor signing up.

DFW ASPE Product Show and Fall Golf Tournament is almost here! I want to say a big Thank YOU to David Eoff our chairman of the product show. If you have not reserved your booth for the show, you may be too late. Contact David Eoff (deoff@preferred-mfg.com or 203-788-4471It is a great honor to serve the DFW ASPE Chapter. I would like to congratulate our officers for the 2008-2009 year and ask that everyone congratulate them on their election and thank them for their service. We are looking forward to an excellent year.

ASPE Plumbing Engineering & Design Handbook of Tables is NOW AVAILABLE! The DFW ASPE Chapter has pre-purchased a limited quantity of these books. These books are available on a first come first serve basis. In order to purchase one of these books from the DFW ASPE Chapter, please contact Bryan Hutton bryan.hutton@lubrizol.com (972-668-4936). The costs of the books are $140 for DFW ASPE Members and $180 for non-members. This book is awesome and a must have for all plumbing and mechanical designers. This book is not just for plumbers. It has almost everything you would ever need for fluid flow and gas dynamics all wrapped up under one cover. This book is awesome.

The convention is coming! The main convention Hotel is now Sold Out! The DFW ASPE Chapter will have a total of 13 participants (All that I am aware of). I hope you all have your calendars marked. Convention takes place October 24 – 29th for Delegates and October 26 – 29th for Convention Only. I hope many of you are planning to travel to Long Beach for the ASPE Convention. The Hotels are filling up fast and you can cancel your reservation later if we need to. Reservations can be made at www.aspe.org.

Later in this newsletter and on our website (www.dfwaspe.org) you will see a very busy calendar of events. The DFW ASPE chapter has many activities planned for the 2008 calendar year.

I would like to thank our Sponsors who have signed up for sponsorships of the DFW ASPE and Satellite Chapters in Tulsa and Lubbock. I want to thank PVI, Dillard & Associates, Hugh Cunningham, SHW Group, Mayco Sales, and Lubrizol who have all signed up for Sponsorships in 2008. We are looking for even greater support in 2009. Our goal is to have at least 12 sponsors for the 2009 calendar year. Check out our Sponsorship Opportunities link on our website (www.dfwaspe.org). What is unique about our packages is that you actually have the ability to save your company money on our annual events while gaining the advertisement, exposure, relationship building opportunity, and educational opportunities that create bottom line results for your company. It is the continued support and reciprocal results that have helped to strengthen our organization and help make our Chapter one of the Best in the Country.

If you have not gone out to the ASPE national website (www.aspe.org) then you are missing out. Check out the National Website and update your contact information. Have you received the new ASPE Pipeline newsletter? This is a great step in the right direction for National and we are excited about the future of ASPE. We must all do our part to make our chapter successful. I want to thank all that have been involved with volunteering for the board and providing support in other ways to our Chapter.

We continue to look for volunteers to help us achieve our goals and conduct our events to the high professional standards that I am certain our members want. If you are interested in volunteering for our events, please give me a call or email so we can discuss.

See you all at the August Meeting!
