BASIC PLUMBING DESIGN II COURSE

DFW ASPE, In partnership with Hugh Cunningham, is proud to present: Basic Plumbing Design II.  While Basic Plumbing Design I is not a pre-requisite, this course will assume that the attendee has at least some basic skills for plumbing design.  Each attendee will receive 11.0 REUs or 1.1 CEUs as well as a Course Booklet for future reference.

TOPICS:

Building off our Basic Plumbing Design I class, where we did some quick broad stroke system layouts and calculations, this Basic II class will be more in-depth towards providing a complete system layout (storm/overflow, sewer/vent, domestic hot and cold water, natural gas), calculations, equipment selections, equipment room layout, etc.  As designer/engineers it is essential when designing a building that we not only drill down into the detail but that we also take a step back and see a global view of our building in relationship with all other trades.  In addition to providing code compliant, well-planned and thought-out plumbing systems that protect the health and welfare of the public and that are owner and maintenance friendly.  In this class we will put pen to paper, taking a building design from start to finish.  We will put more emphasis on the student doing the actual system layouts and calculations.  We will also be looking for trouble spots, pitfalls, and areas where we can improve the system designs.  Full course description below.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This program provides the basic plumbing design of a complete building.  We will take a building from the ground up.  We will do a complete design of the basic plumbing systems in a commercial building including storm drainage system, sanitary sewer/vent systems, natural gas systems and domestic hot and cold water systems.  We will also look at the implications that different codes can have on designed systems as well as reviewing and discussing coordination between trades.

Storm Sizing, Routing & Coordination – 2 Hours

Learning Objectives:

  1. Properly size storm and overflow drain piping
  2. Properly select equipment needed within the storm drainage system.
  3. Correctly coordinate pipe routing with building and structure within the building
  4. Understand correct pipe material to be used based upon application and ground movement.

Domestic Hot, Cold & Heating Water Design - 3.5 hours total

  • Domestic Cold Water Sizing – 1.5 Hours
  • Domestic Hot Water Sizing – 0.5 Hour
  • Domestic Heating Water Equipment Sizing and Selection – 1.5 Hour

Learning Objectives:

  1. Properly size domestic cold water piping
  2. Properly size domestic hot water piping
  3. Properly select and size the domestic heating water equipment to fit specific projects.
  4. Correctly coordinate space allocations within the building
  5. Understand how to correctly size domestic hot water return systems.

Sanitary Sewer Sizing, Routing & Coordination – 2.5 Hours

Learning Objectives:

  1. Properly size sanitary sewer piping
  2. Properly size sanitary vent piping
  3. Properly select equipment needed within the sanitary sewer system.
  4. Correctly coordinate pipe routing with building and structure within the building
  5. Understand correct pipe material to be used based upon application and ground movement.

Natural Gas Sizing, Routing & Coordination – 1.0 Hours

Learning Objectives:

  1. Properly size natural gas piping
  2. Properly select equipment needed within the natural gas system.
  3. Correctly coordinate pipe routing with site utilities, building and structure within the building

Plumbing System Coordination – 2.0 Hours

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review and discuss the continual coordination that must occur throughout design and construction.
  2. How do deal with structural conflicts and correctly understanding limitations within the plumbing design
  3. Correctly coordinate pipe routing with building and structure within the building
